Natural sciences

A map of the world

The university of applied sciences (UAS) degree programmes in the field of Natural Sciences prepare Bachelors of Business Administration (tradenomi AMK). The scope of the degree is 210 credits and it takes 3.5 years to complete. The degree can be taken in the following area:

  • Degree Programme in Business Information Technology

The core studies create a foundation for the chosen professional field, which will be further consolidated in professional studies. The programmes include a 30-credit work placement, where students get to apply what they have learnt and acquire information about business operations in practical situations. Usually work placements also offer good opportunities to find a permanent job. In many cases, students complete their 15-credit Bachelor’s theses on commission from businesses and this contributes to supporting their specialisation in their chosen area.

The programmes require completion of general upper secondary school or an upper secondary vocational qualification. Holders of further or specialist qualifications can also apply to a UAS. Open UAS provides a track to UAS studies for those without the required prior education.

You can study for the Bachelor’s degree in Business and Administration in Finnish, Swedish and English.

Master’s Degree

A UAS Master’s degree provides an opportunity to continue your studies after three years of work. UAS Master’s degrees are parallel to university Master’s degrees. The scope of a UAS Master’s degree is 90 ECTS credits and it can be completed while working. Applicants to Master’s degree programmes are required to have acquired at least three years of work experience after completion of a UAS Bachelor’s degree.

The degree title of those graduating from English-language degree programmes is Master of Business Administration (equivalent to the Finnish degree title tradenomi, ylempi AMK).

Degree Programme in Business Information Technology

The Degree Programme in Business Information Technology also makes it possible to find employment in other IT assignments besides business administration. At the early stages of studies, students become part of a team and learn to work on projects. At the same time, they also receive basic knowledge of using office software, programming, website production, information networks and databases. After these, they focus on their own specialisation area and receive more in-depth knowledge of their chosen area. Specialisation options offered by different UAS include games production, software production, telecommunications, digital media production and IT entrepreneurship.

If you are interested in computers, teamwork, projects, constantly learning new things and development of applications and services, Business Information Technology may well be the field for you. The field is developing and competencies are renewing rapidly and constantly, which means that everyone must look after their own competence.

Graduates from Business Information Technology programmes find employment in a very wide variety of supervisory, specialist, production and service assignments at different levels in both business and public sectors. They work in various application and service production and development assignments, testing and maintenance assignments, as well as sales, customer service and managerial positions. Professional titles include project manager, application designer, software designer, web designer, systems specialist, project co-ordinator or IT support person.

Please bear in mind that the joint application period for English-language Bachelor’s Degree programmes is in January.
